Latest Craze

Tonight was my first night of sewing classes! After searching for over a year (not intentionally searching - I could have done a better job looking), the fabric lady at Hobby Lobby gave me a business card for Sew Creative.

I started off the night with an old sewing machine that had been given to me awhile back. Eileen (teacher) asked me to bring it in over a week ago so that she could familiarize herself with it. Sadly, the machine was a bust. She didn't tell me right away, but let me draw that conclusion for myself. The presser foot won't stay in the up position, which I learned is cruicial for threading the needle and moving fabric. I also learned that it wouldn't stitch correctly. The tension setting (I still don't know exactly what that is) apparently shifts on its own. When I tried to do a zig-zag stich, my line went all over the place. I spent about 20 minutes looking at the other machines people had brought and the ones she had supplied. I asked if she could recommend a machine that wouldn't be too hefty for a beginner and she suggested the Kenmore 18221. (I was a bit leary, but she told me that Kenmore's are actually made by Janome!) She also suggested that I order it from Sear's online and pick it up at the store to save an extra $30. Brian already had the model pulled up on the computer by the time I got home. Eileen hit the nail on the head with price! After taxes, my total cost was $154. I can't wait to start sewing!
